How to get tasks from Alignerr assigned the same day.
Read this while you're waiting for the email of truth
Hey guys! I’ve been a AI tutor for Outlier and now Alignerr (this name is horrendous to spell btw) for over a year now and have watched the industry evolve from getting paid ~$10 an hour as an expert to some jobs now paying $60/hour and even $80/hour in some cases. Alignerr is a new platform from Labelbox that has similar expert crowdsourcing to Outlier, Scale AI’s platform. In my opinion it is better, albiet it has flaws especially since the task volume seems to be less than Alignerr and the assessments are harder.
Understanding Alignerr's Task Distribution
Alignerr, like its predecessor Outlier, operates on a system where tasks are distributed to qualified experts. Here's how the process typically works:
Task Creation: Companies and researchers submit AI-related tasks to Alignerr.
Expert Matching: Alignerr's system matches these tasks with experts who have the appropriate skills and qualifications.
Task Distribution: Qualified experts receive notifications about available tasks.
Task Acceptance: Experts can choose to accept or decline tasks based on their availability and interest.
Right now (September 22 2024) it seems Alignerr is bottlenecked by the number of tasks. I personally have been getting tasks but it’s likely that because I’ve qualified for many roles and was recruited from outlier:
I can make a guide on how to study and qualify for roles if people are interested.
Speeding Up Your Task Reception
While waiting for that crucial email notifying you of new tasks (affectionately known as the "email of truth"), here are some tips to potentially speed up the process:
Complete Your Profile:
This includes adding credentials. Putting your college, certifications, etc. seems pretty necessary from people I’ve talked to.
Sign up for Deel when available and do all possible onboarding.
Alignerr effectively has a queue and the top of the queue is the highest rated people. The site is still pretty new so I imagine the algorithm isn’t very complicated, moreso just how much information you have filled out in your profile. Based on others I’ve talked to, approval happens fast if there’s enough compelling information in your profile and interview that seems relevant to the task (ie for a Physics interview, being a physics high school teacher helps).
TLDR FILL OUT YOUR PROFILE. INCLUDE AS MANY RELEVANT THINGS ABOUT YOUR SKILL SET AS POSSIBLE (EDUCATION IS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT)
Maintain High Quality: Do as many assessments as possible and try to ace all of them. TestGorilla is a cruel mistress so make sure you don’t get any wrong. Double check!
Be Responsive: Apparently quick responses to task notifications can increase your chances of securing work. Alignerr isn’t as competitive as Outlier although it will likely get there.
Expand Your Skills: Consider acquiring new skills to qualify for a wider range of tasks. I can write an article about this, as I self-taught to qualify for a few jobs availible in AI training. Please subscribe to this blog if interested (it’s free).
Thats basically it. Contacting Alignerr staff doesn’t seem to do anything. TestGorilla is an unforgiving platform, make sure to practice before taking the assessment as you can only do it once. There may be a way to still get the role however I’ll leave this for a future article.
Let me know if you have any questions about the industry, I plan to make this blog a repository of everything I’ve learned in the past year.
Someone asked if I was on discord, so I made one where ai trainers in the industry can share tips. Enjoy!
I’m running into technical difficulties just uploading my resume. I keep getting an email that I’m invited to take the assessment but there isn’t one to complete. It also won’t let me complete my profile. I have finished all the onboarding training, however. I would love to hear anything about resources for practicing for the assessment. I was hoping the onboarding would have opportunity to practice instead of just observation.
Just got onboarded as a generalist and english speaker. I'm interested in studying for technical writer, do you have any material on that by any chance? Also, I did the training, but still waiting for the slack, how long did you have to wait for that? Thanks and enjoyed the bog!
